Chapter 4 – Policy Development & Decision Making

Political system and political power seem unimportant at first when considering aspects of education policy.

A Glimpse Into the United States Political System

The political system was created in the eighteenth century with people familiar with theory, not action. Since then, the development of the political system has changed very little requiring educators to learn more about how the system works. It is important to recognize the political system and how education policy is determined (Fowler, 2013).

Three Types of Political Cultures in the United States

Political cultures in the United States are associated with specific regions and have distinct characteristics to the politics of that region (Fowler, 2013). The influence of political culture appears significant in shaping state-level education policymaking, yet it faces limitations due to the national education policy agenda.
